Wander On, Dear Ones
Feet were meant for wandering, traveling, exploring, and adventuring. Put on a pair of boots, walk outside and look at the beauty of nature around you. (If you live in the Midwest like me, it is probably very cold, but that doesn't mean you cant go on a very short adventure to your mailbox, or even make a short trek to your car for a coffee run.) Traveling is such a beautiful experience because you get outside of your comfort zone and experience a new culture. Ever since I was in grade school, my family would go on road trips around the United States. This has resulted in visiting multiple National Parks, exploring all but 7 states, making our way into Canada multiple times, hiking for hours, and learning to truly appreciate nature. The urge to travel runs through my veins and leads me to go on spontaneous adventures with friends, family, or by myself.
Over my winter break, most of my adventures have been by car, starting with my drive back from Ohio to Wisconsin. Since then, I have traveled to Indiana and different parts of Wisconsin. In 21 days, I will be traveling the farthest I ever have in my whole 20 years of existence. On January 31st, I am catching a plane to Vienna, Austria where I will study for a semester. (Before you ask I do not know any German, but I can get by in Spanish, which probably will not help me at all.)
Traveling brings so much joy and happiness into my life because I get to experience new places in their true beauty, appreciate every sunrise, watch the stars in awe, live in the simplicity of a suitcase. If you haven't traveled in a while, I urge you to go on an adventure. No need to plan, just go. Spontaneous adventures are the best because you aren't tied down by a schedule, though if you want to travel for more than a weekend, some type of schedule is useful.
I challenge you to go to someplace new, a place where you have never seen the sunset, a place you have never heard the crunch of snow underneath your feet, a place you have never drank a morning cup of coffee as you look out at the nature around you. Go. The time is now. Make it a solo trip so you can reflect on your week, or take a friend so you can make new memories. Do what makes you happy.
I dare you: go out and live today.
